This themed cruise has been designed especially for classical music lovers and features carefully selected music programs both on board and on land. Private concerts in the St. Thomas Church in Strasbourg, at the Dominicus Church in Amsterdam and in Beethoven’s house in Bonn form some of the musical and cultural highlights of the cruise, while famous artists such as the organist Daniel Maurer provide the grand finale of the concert cruise with their incomparable performances. Furthermore, the “Dudok Quartet” and the “Nathan Quartet” will provide musical entertainment for you on board.

Begin your classical music odyssey in the Dutch capital city of Amsterdam. After embarking and settling into your home for the next 8 days, join the cruise director for a Welcome Cocktail followed by a special Welcome Dinner. This evening, begin your cruise with a special concert onboard featuring classical music from a selection of composers and anticipate the joy the week ahead .
The morning is all about choices. Discover what makes Amsterdam extraordinary with a relaxing canal cruise and a visit to the flower market, or venture into the surrounding countryside to the picturesque towns of Volendam and Edam where the deliciousness of Dutch cheese awaits. The third choice delivers you to Haarlem and the Cathedral of St. Bavo before rejoining the vessel in the charming town of Utrecht.
During the afternoon cruise through the Ijsselmeer, one of Holland’s largest inland freshwater lakes, and relax in the Panorama-Bar as the Dudok Quartet enchants you with beautiful pieces of classical music. Join fellow travelers for dinner as the Dutch Waterways pass by.
After breakfast, observe our arrival at the beautiful cathedral city of Cologne. Explore the historic Old Town with its High Gothic architecture, the famous twin-spired Cologne Cathedral, and sample the Kölsch beer brewed exclusively in Cologne. Enjoy a leisurely afternoon or join the tour of the Chocolate Museum and discover the 5,000-year-old history of chocolate.
Continue with a visit to the Beethoven House, a memorial site and museum focusing on the life and work of the famous composer. As a special treat, Martin Ivanov performs a private piano concert in the Chamber Music Hall. Later in the evening the vessel continues cruising the Rhine River until it arrives upon the alluring Moselle River.
This morning our AMADEUS vessel takes a special trip down the romantic Moselle River, the largest tributary of the Rhine. This area is the fifth largest German wine region with some of the steepest terraced vineyards along the river.
After lunch, your vessel arrives in Cochem. Explore the town’s filled with narrow streets, twisting alleys, medieval town gates, churches and walls on your own, or participate in a guided tour to discover the beauty of Cochem and visit the stunning Reichsburg Castle. This evening, as the vessel continues toward Koblenz, enjoy an exclusive concert on board with the Nathan Quartet.
Enjoy a music-filled day in Koblenz and Rüdesheim! In the morning, visit the ancient city of Koblenz which is situated at the confluence of the Rhine and the Moselle Rivers, and a gateway to the terraced vineyards and castle ruins of the Rhine Gorge. After your visit, your ship travels through the most beautiful section of the river — the legendary Upper Middle Rhine Valley. This area is registered on the UNESCO World Heritage list for its dramatic riverbanks dotted with vineyards and picturesque castles.
Enjoy a musical tea party on board, while listening to beautiful musical pieces interpreted by the Nathan Quartet and the dramatic scenery passes by. In the afternoon, discover the winegrower’s town of Rüdesheim and visit Siegfried’s Mechanical Music Museum, which features a private collection of self-playing instruments. After a delicious dinner, your vessel continues along the Rhine.
After breakfast, arrive in the former imperial residence of Speyer, a city known for its cathedral where eight Roman emperors and German kings are interred. Choose to explore the city on a guided tour including a visit to the medieval Jewish Mikvha.
After lunch, travel to the university town of Heidelberg. Tour this well-preserved old town and visit the beautiful Heidelberg Castle, which is one of Germany’s most famous landmarks and is considered the symbol of German Romanticism. In this very place, the Stuttgart String Quartet will spoil you with a private concert. This evening the captain invites you to a festive Captain’s Gala Dinner.
Arrive in the dynamic capital of Alsace and discover the city’s sights which include the famous cathedral "Straßburger Münster" and the Petite France Quarter, a former mill and tanner district that still maintains its medieval charm. Half-timbered houses, the Ponts Couverts, the Palais de Rohan, and the Council of Europe are among the wonders that Strasbourg holds in store for you. The Grand Island, the city center, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is connected to the rest of the city by 22 stone bridges. A city sightseeing tour is part of the morning’s program, culminating in an organ concert in the church of St. Thomas by organist Daniel Maurer.
After lunch on board, take in the views of the romantic Rhine as we move toward Switzerland, our final destination. On your final evening on board, celebrate your musical journey with a farewell concert by the Stuttgart String Quartet.
