Amsterdam → Amsterdam
8 Days
On this summer cruise from/to Amsterdam you will get to know the Netherlands from its most beautiful side. The highlights are the Dutch metropolis itself, charming cities such as Delft, Gouda and Utrecht, but also the scenic charm of Zeeland, the Ijsselmeer and the numerous waterways on which you can glide along with great views. A detour to the Belgian city jewels of Ghent and Antwerp rounds off the special travel programme.
Amsterdam is the starting point of your Dutch and Belgian cruise experience. Embark in the afternoon and meet your fellow guests at a Welcome Cocktail. This is followed by the Welcome Dinner, where you will enjoy delectable cuisine and great company to celebrate the commencement of your cruise.
An exciting day awaits you, starting with a morning tour of Amsterdam, also known as “The Venice of the North” thanks to its famed canal system. Amsterdam boasts many highlights, including the Oude Kerk (Old Church), the oldest building in the city and the flower market. In the afternoon, you can enjoy a comfortable bus trip to the north of Holland, exploring the unmistakable charm of the Dutch countryside. You will rejoin your vessel in the port city of Hoorn. In the evening, relax at dinner and swap stories with your fellow guests while your vessel continues on its way.
You will arrive in Rotterdam before breakfast. Rotterdam is the second largest city in the Netherlands and is Europe’s largest seaport. During the morning city tour, you will get a chance to learn more about this exciting port city and its cultural and historical significance. The tour will include a visit to the iconic, contemporary market hall of Rotterdam, where you can admire art and sample local delicacies. In the afternoon, you can choose to visit the lovely canal town of Delft, renowned for the Delft Blue ceramics which have been manufactured and hand painted there since the seventeenth century. Alternatively, you can join the excursion to the quaint town of Gouda, home of the Gouda cheese. You will return to Rotterdam in the evening and will be able to unwind on board while your ship cruises gently on towards Zierikzee.
Make the most of your stop in Zierikzee, in the province of Zeeland, by exploring the town in the morning. Zierikzee has an impressive history and still boasts landmarks from various past eras. This includes the fifteenth-century Sint-Lievensmonster tower, the sixteenth-century town hall, and many more. The afternoon boasts a special highlight – a trip to the truly astounding technological marvel known as the Delta Works, which protects the southwest of the Netherlands from the sea. Be amazed by the complex system of dams, sluices, locks, dykes, storm surge barriers and more which protects the mainland. Once you are back on board, you will enjoy a delicious evening meal in the company of your fellow cruisers.
Early in the morning, your vessel docks in Ghent. In the morning, don’t miss the excursion to Bruges, the capital of the province of West Flanders, which is home to one of the most charming city centers in Belgium. Not surprisingly, this unbelievably picturesque, canal-filled city center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After lunch, you can choose to tour comfortably through Ghent in order to unearth the secrets of Belgium’s third-largest city. Its treasures and sights include the beautiful St. Bavo Cathedral and the famous Ghent Altarpiece, along with many museums. Enjoy a sumptuous dinner in the evening while your vessel heads to yet another lovely Belgian city.
The second-largest city in Belgium welcomes you today. In the morning, explore Antwerp in a comfortable coach. Famous for its diamond trade, the city also boasts many cultural highlights such as the Cathedral of Our Lady, with paintings by the famous Baroque artist Peter Paul Rubens. After lunch, you can delve deeper into the history of this legendary artist with a visit to the Rubenshuis (Rubens House), Rubens’ erstwhile home and workshop. In the evening, the festive Captain’s Gala Dinner will provide a fitting finish to the day. While you are celebrating with your fellow guests, your vessel will return to the Netherlands.
After a delicious breakfast, you can explore Utrecht on a city tour. The city was once the most important and largest city in the Netherlands, and consequently has much to offer in terms of history and culture. It boasts not only iconic, leafy Dutch canals, but also has an impressive city center dating back to the Middle Ages. At lunchtime, you will return to your vessel, which will then cruise back to the capital of the Netherlands. You will arrive in Amsterdam in the afternoon, and will finish off the evening in style with a traditional shanty choir performance on board.
After breakfast, we bid you farewell. We hope to welcome you back again soon!
