Trier → Nuremberg
This 7 day cruise combines the majesty of three great European rivers - the Moselle, the Rhine and the Main. Explore the Upper Middle Rhine Valley with its numerous castles, and experience the tranquil Main meanders. Discover the half-timbered buildings of Miltenberg and Wertheim, along with the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Würzburg and Bamberg.
Start your cruise in Trier on the banks of the Moselle River. Embark in the afternoon and make yourself comfortable in your luxury floating hotel. In the evening, celebrate the commencement of your trip with a Welcome Cocktail and a sumptuous Welcome Dinner.
Early in the morning, your vessel arrives in Cochem, which lies in the vine-covered Moselle Valley. Wine production in this region stretches back to the Romans, who established the first vineyards here in the second century. Take part in a morning walking tour of Cochem and explore the narrow streets, winding alleyways, quaint churches, and medieval town gates, as well as Reichsburg Castle, which offers unparalleled views over the dreamy, forested surroundings. Conclude your tour with a wine tasting before returning to your ship, which departs at lunchtime.
Unwind in one of the luxurious communal spaces or in your cabin in the afternoon before enjoying a delectable dinner on board with your fellow guests.
This morning, discover Koblenz, one of the oldest towns in Germany, which has been shaped by, among others, the Romans, the Franks, and the Holy Roman Empire over the course of its 2,000-year history. On our guided morning walk through the romantic streets you will discover some of its UNESCO World Heritage Sites such as the St. Castor Basilica, the Church of our Beloved Lady, the Schängel Fountain, and more.
After the tour, you will return to your ship, where you can find yourself a comfortable deck chair in preparation for the scenic passage of the Loreley as the ship continues along the Upper Middle Rhine Valley. This is arguably the most beautiful section of the Rhine and has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Enjoy the fairytale landscape with its many castles and look out for the myth-enshrouded Lorelei Rock.
Spend a tranquil morning unwinding on board as the scenic riverscape passes by. Just after lunch, your floating AMADEUS hotel will dock in Miltenberg, a medieval town situated on the Main in the midst of scenic wooded hillsides. This will give you the opportunity to explore the charming town with its plethora of photogenic sights, squares, and alleyways.
If you choose to join the afternoon tour, you will get the opportunity to learn all about Miltenberg before heading off to Wertheim in a comfortable bus. Stroll through the medieval streets of Wertheim, visit the Angel’s Fountain or pay a visit to the glass museum and marvel at the art and craftsmanship on display there. Your ship will continue onward to Wertheim in the meantime, where you will rejoin it for dinner.
A busy day awaits you as your ship arrives in Würzburg in the morning. This Bavarian town, located in the heart of the Franconian wine district, is known for its lavish Baroque and Rococo architecture. You can admire the main sights of the town on the morning walking tour, including the marketplace, the Maria Chapel, the Marienburg Fortress, and the surrounding vineyards. The tour concludes with a wine tasting in the ancient wine cellar of a local vineyard. Continue your explorations with the unmissable afternoon tour to Rothenburg ob der Tauber, one of Germany’s best-preserved medieval towns. This self-contained town with its towers, walls and city gates which have remained unchanged since the Thirty Years’ War is deservedly know as Germany’s “Jewel of the Middle Ages.” Join a local guide who will take you to points of interest such as the St. Jakob Parish Church, where art lovers can admire an altar by Tilman Riemenschneider, one of the greatest German sculptors of the Middle Ages. After the guided tour, enjoy some free time or visit the famous Käthe Wohlfahrt Christmas Museum. A bus will take you back to your ship in Würzburg, where you can wind down at dinner.
After a relaxing morning on board you can choose to join the afternoon excursion to Bamberg. A comfortable bus will collect you from Zeil am Main, where your ship docks at lunchtime, and take you to the UNESCO World Heritage town of Bamberg, which has retained much of its medieval layout, many of its historic buildings and Baroque facades. Known for its historic quarter, its many churches and monasteries, its imperial cathedral, and the charming “Little Venice” quarter, there is sure to be something to please every taste. After the walking tour, admire the seven hills of Bamberg, each topped with a church, as you enjoy a beer from one of the many local breweries. While you explore the magnificent sights of Bamberg, your ship will make its way to Bamberg as well, where you will board it again in the evening.
Enjoy breakfast on board before disembarking. The entire AMADEUS crew thanks you for your patronage, bids you farewell and wishes you a safe journey home.
