Magic of Advent along the Rhine and Moselle

Cologne →  Cologne

5 Days

Experience the special charm of our winter cruise on board the festively decorated AMADEUS Queen: let the dreamy landscape of the Middle Rhine and Moselle valleys dazzle you. Get caught up in the magic of the holidays with visits to some of the most romantic cities and postcard-perfect towns along the way. And on board cherish a magical Christmas wonderland in grand European style.

Visit our atmospheric Christmas market on board, shopping for handcrafted toys and gifts, sipping hot mulled wine and inhaling the fragrance of gingerbread and roasted chestnuts. Enjoy a unique Advent concert in the Panorama Bar, sing Christmas carols together with our crew and bake Christmas cookies with our on-board pastry chef - our timeless holiday traditions are truly a dream come true.

The Rhine metropolis Cologne welcomes you with wintery charm. After embarkation in the afternoon, you will have plenty of time to explore your festively decorated AMADEUS ship before you can join us for a Welcome Cocktail. In the evening, the chef will spoil you with a festive Welcome Dinner.

Stay Cologne
Departure at 6.30pm

We spend this morning on the water which gives you enough time to stroll over the decks, to visit the Amadeus Club for a hot cup of tea or to join the ship's pastry chef in baking the world's best Christmas cookies - a truly delicious treat!

After we have left the Rhine and passed the first Moselle lock, the landscape suddenly changes: the vineyards become steeper and steeper and the pitch-black slate terraces more and more impressive, before we finally reach the romantic picture-book town of Cochem around noon. The Reichsburg is a landmark that cannot be overlooked, enthroned high above the winding half-timbered alleys and shining with thousands of lights during the Advent season. Up here we enjoy a Moselle wine tasting before we go back on board. Alternatively you can visit the Christmas market in Cochem.

Stay Cochem
12pm - 4pm

Founded by the Romans in 16 B.C., Trier is considered the oldest city in Germany and boasts a large number of architectural monuments that have been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Together we explore the art-historical and architectural sights on a guided tour. The city's idyllic Christmas markets are almost an insider tip. Spread over three locations in the center, you can take a delightful stroll, buy small gifts or taste local specialties. Our AMADEUS Christmas market, which opens its doors in the afternoon on board, is no less tasteful. Here, too, we spoil you with hot punch, mulled wine or with the tarte flambée so typical for the region.

In the evening the AMADEUS Queen reaches Bernkastel-Kues, located on the right side of the Mosel. Our evening walk through the romantic old town ends with a wine tasting.

How is Christmas celebrated in other parts of the world? You will find out during an atmospheric lecture, which our cruise director will be giving this morning in the Panorama Bar.

While you are still enjoying your lunch on board, our ship has already moored in Koblenz. The 100,000 inhabitant metropolis at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle rivers welcomes us with magnificent churches and squares, which we will admire during a city tour. Immediately afterwards, we take the gondola lift up to the Ehrenbreitstein fortress. From up here you have a fantastic view of the famous Deutsches Eck and the not seldom snow-covered hills and mountains of the Eifel and Hunsrück, stretching to the horizon.

After our festive Captain's Gala Dinner in the evening join us for an Advent concert on board, another highlight of this cruise.

Now it is time to say “Adieu.” After fortifying yourself at a generous breakfast, our crew will gladly assist you at disembarkation. Before you leave Cologne and make your way back home, our crew, in the name of the entire AMADEUS team, wishes you a pleasant journey and a joyous festive season!
